17 Habits of a Happy Person

Everytime a new year approaches, it has always been enticing for most people to have their New Year’s Resolution. But not me.

Honestly speaking, whether it’s for the New Year or just for the reason of living a better and happier life,
I have always been into reading articles about HAPPINESS and POSITIVITY. It’s a quick (helpful) guide on how to be on the lighter side of life, or if not, it helps you choose your battles and/or guides you on how to approach them.

Believe it or not, I have started reading books such as The Be (Happy) Attitude since I was in 4th grade.
And would have to admit that one of my favorite books is The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin, that I actually did the 365 days challenge, which in fact, helps you find something to be grateful for every single day.

I enjoy such research, because I just don’t get to do it for myself, but the fact that I get to share it to the people I know, is satisfying.

So why wait for the new year, when you can already practice them now?

Listed below is my compilation, after years of reading articles on How To Live a Happier and More Positive  Life:

1. Find one (1) to three (3) things to be grateful for on a daily basis.
If it’s even possible for you to write them down and store in a bottle, do so.
It might come in handy, whenever you need encouragement when you’re having a bad day.

2. Gossip less.
No offense, but those who like to gossip about other people have nothing better to do,
that’s why they  divert and focus on other people’s lives.

3.  Communicate more.
Talk to people that are worth your time. Those who will teach and help you be the better version of
      yourself.

4.  Look people in the eye.
Most especially when conversing, it is an affirmative sign that you are listening and interested to what the
            other person has to say.

5. Don’t waste time complaining.
Save your time and energy by finding solutions instead.

6. Spend at least five (5) minutes of cleaning.
A clean and decluttered environment helps you think clearly and be at ease.

7. Practice self kindness.
    Limit criticizing oneself.
Allow yourself to relax after a long day.

8. Smile.
It does not only affect those around you, but it actually affects you internally.
It has wonders and make you happy, even if you have to fake it.

9. Carry a book or a sketch pad.
It’s a good company when you’re out and waiting. It doesn’t just kill time, but you actually learn
           something.
You'll never know when inspiration and ideas come to you.

10. Always say, Please, Thank you and Sorry.
May it be a big or small gesture for the other person, acknowledge them.

11. Compliment more.
      It goes a long way.
You’ll never know whose day has been made better with a simple compliment.

12. Think before you speak.
It helps you avoid unintentionally hurting other people.

13. Set your Goals, Dreams and Ambitions.
This is where you start, then set your mind and learn on how to achieve them.

14. Walk when as much as possible.
You might be surprised on how it helps you clear your mind, and at the same time, it’s a good exercise.
As a form of exercise, it helps your body release Endorphins also known as the “Happy hormones”.

15. Remember that it’s okay to say “NO”.
Don’t get pressured in doing something you’re not comfortable with.
Especially if it does not benefit you, and is not worth your time and effort.

16. Watch TED at least once a month on a topic you’re not familiar with.
Feed your mind with new knowledge, it’s something you can take with you wherever you go.

17. Let go of Negativity.
Never allow it to take a hold of you, because if you do, you will attract more of it. Hence, domino effect.

These are just a few that have stood out from all my readings, and some are the teachings I've received while growing up.
Some might think that this isn't vital, but one way or the other, it makes us appreciate life more.
Living a positive life elicits stress and helps us focuses on the good things that life has to offer.

At the same time, don't get pressured in accomplishing everything all at once. Take it one step at a time until these grow into habits. Think of it this way, you are one step closer to a happier and more positive life.  Rome wasn't built in a day, anyway. I for one, haven't mastered all of these, but I am a work in progress, and so are you.
